This is super cool: a handheld CNC router that uses computer vision to let you see exactly what you’re cutting through the bit, and compensates for any shaky hand movement with automatic stabilization. We visit Shaper to learn about the Origin and test out its features!

  1. Hey, This is a good video here. The most useful woodworking projects that I have ever used was Toms Magic Wood (just google it). Without a doubt it contains the most incredible woodworking plans that I have ever tried.

  2. The host is terrible, it seems that he's not really listening at all, ignores recommendations given by the machine's builder, no charisma, not intelligent and ignorant… how come he's with Savage's team?

  3. You could easily Customize bedrooms with names into floors right at the threshold or entrance of the room and Color or wood inlay it. The possibilities are huge with this invention in terms of being able to customize or personalize things. You could set this on any wood surface and put someone’s name into it perfectly.

  4. Hardwood floors, you could machine anything into a hardwood floor with this. Not just compass arrows or stars. Whatever you wanted. Imagine being able to machine into a basketball court floor a teams logo and with shop machined wood fill in those spaces.

  5. This seems like one of those projects that is a great accomplishment but that serves no real purpose in the real world. Having to babysit the machine kind of cancels out the benefits of a CNC which frees up the workers time to accomplish other tasks. You did it. you made a tool that any idiot can hold and make accurate cuts. Problem is only an idiot would need it.

  6. As long as the routing is precise, then it worths the money if you are in the wood worker that has to build thing in the job site. Of Course, everyone wants a low priced machine but it is simply not in this industry. A hand held edge banding machine, which basically is a heat iron and cutter together, is more expensive than this .
BTW, I really want to see a review of how round a circle can be made and the smoothness of the edge this machine makes.

Note: I owned a operate 5'x9' CNC and it needs tons of technical knowledge to run it. However, the usage is totally different. The full size one can be used for large volume production while this one a perfect fit for custom wood work on site.
